FIREFLY CUAS Passive Detector Swarm

CUAS Passive Detector Swarm

Product Overview

As part of our FIREFLY Software Radio family of products, Syncopated is offering a multi-modal CUAS passive sensing solution that integrates acoustic and RF sensing capabilities to create a distributed wireless sensor network with ATAK application providing a cost-effective UAS detection and early warning system. The CUAS Detector is a low SWAP device (5.75 x 5.75 x 2 in, ~200g) which is powered by an internal USB rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. The CUAS Detector can be deployed as a wearable system, a SUAS payload or as a distributed attritable ground sensing solution. The wearable system provides audio and haptic alerting. The CUAS Detector integrates a microphone array with our FIREFLY Software Defined Radio (SDR), providing acoustic and RF sensing, sensor fusion, and platform recognition at the edge.

Acoustic Detector: The acoustic CUAS detection and platform recognition capability uses machine learning algorithms trained on the acoustic signature of the platforms. The acoustic signature includes time-frequency spectrogram features as well as cepstral features. The multi-channel microphone array provides a direction-finding capability as well as improves detection range.

RF Detector: The RF CUAS Detector provides signal detection and recognition of common UAS C2, data and telemetry links and specific modulation recognition (GFSK, QPSK, OFDM, etc.).

On-Board Multi-Modal Sensor Fusion: The embedded microcontroller features an ARM Cortex-M55 processor and a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for energy-efficient AI inference at the edge. The processor is responsible for audio and RF signal processing including data conditioning, feature extraction, multi-modal sensor fusion and AI inference.

Collaborative Geolocation Swarm and ATAK Application: The ATAK application aggregates data from across the distributed CUAS Detector swarm and displays the acoustic signal strength at each sensor location creating a heatmap to capture the threat range and direction.
